Jeff Merkley the Fighter Hits the Airwaves

April 7, 2008

Something that many hard core supporters (especially bloggers) both candidates in the US Senate primary in Oregon often forget is that a huge chunk of voters are not aware of either Democratic Senate candidate.  With such low name ID on the ticket, both the ground game and television will be hugely important, as candidates still have to introduce themselves to voters.  Jeff Merkley’s first TV ad is about to hit the airwaves, introducing him as a reformer, a fighter, someone who leads, and someone who gets things done:

My favorite story about Jeff Merkley fighting for what matters was his unrelenting pursuit of equality for LGBT families in the legislature.  In 2005 when Merkley and the Democrats were in the minority. Karen Minnis use an underhanded rule change to keep Merkley from bringing a Civil Unions bill to the floor and passing it less than a year after the state banned gay marriage. Merkley wouldn’t take Minnis’ flack and refused to stop questioning the rule change despite being gaveled down and ruled out of order by Minnis. Karen Minnis then cut off his mic on the House floor and threatened to have state troopers remove him. But Merkley kept right on fighting and in 2007 won passage of historic legislation for basic rights and domestic partnerships.

Thats the kind of fighter I want in the United States Senate, one that knows how to fight, when to fight, and doesn’t give up. That is why I am proud to support Jeff Merkley.

Ahh yes, I will probably do a plug for Jeff Merkley over at my blog, but haven’t got around to it yet.

A canvaser for Jeff Merkley showed up at my door on Sunday morning to tell me about him and give me a sign. I think he’s already won my vote, but the task of winning over other people’s votes can be quite challenging. Good luck =)

As much as I enjoy reading of your blind support, I think now would be an appropriate time to jump off the Merkley ship…it’s going down!

Sources: KATU set to release eyebrow-raising poll showing Merkley in 3rd place

    KATU poll:
    1. Steve Novick
    2. Candy Neville
    3. Jeff Merkley

There is no way that Candy Neville is polling better than Merkley in a legitimate poll, she has no name rec and no money, and she hasn’t been getting press coverage.

Also David Lorea is said to be polling at 6% in that poll. Lorea asked ME to be his campaign manager TWICE! Clearly not the sign of a legitimate candidate. There is no way that he really has 6% support in the electorate; it has to be a garbage poll.

Oh, ok… I see how this blog works. You delete comments left that don’t agree with your take. I just noticed my comment about Kate Brown from 3/17 has disappeared. Trickery is SOOO Republican.

David, I don’t delete comments unless they go into the Spam filter. I don’t see a record of your comment but if it did go to the spam filter I wouldn’t have such a record. I didn’t even write the 3/17 post on Kate Brown so since it wasn’t my view point, I can’t really delete comments that disagree with my view on that post.

Please repost your comment again and I will make sure it doesn’t get caught in the spam filter.

If you continue to have problems please email me.

Jeffs TV add states that he fought hard to protect a womans right to choose????

How do you fight for something that has never been in jeopardy. Every living human with the brain capacity of a 3 year old has the right to chose. Even if you stick with YOUR subject then every woman has the freedom to chose to abort their baby. They have ALWAYS had that freedom so what is there to fight for?

Isn’t it fair to state that the choice being fought for is to decide for themselves what they consider is right or wrong? If everyone can make that choice for themselves then there wouldn’t be a right or wrong.

    Bradley Metcalf:

The right is to control your own body. Jeff protected and expanded right by passing laws that prevents health care providers from refusing to provide care to women in need.
